Message From the Chair

The METU Department of Chemistry was established in 1960. Since then, the Department has trained students in all fields of chemistry at a state-of-the-art level that enables them to contribute to the advancement of science and chemistry the world over.

The METU Chemistry Department is one of the best in the country in terms of both education and research. A significant number of our students are employed by the well known universities, institutions and companies worldwide. As a result, our Department is well recognized around the world.

Our Department provides research opportunities in all fields of chemistry such as organic, analytical, physical, inorganic, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, nanochemistry, material chemistry, and theoretical chemistry with very talented faculty members and graduate students. The facilities in the Department and in the university’s central laboratories enable cutting-edge research to be performed.

We care about the environment and contribute to a better life for humanity both locally and globally. In line with this objective, sustainable and clean energy research is also being pursued.

The Department of Chemistry not only excels in academic training and research but also contributes to the chemical industry in this country through numerous collaborations and sponsored projects.

As Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, said:
